Twenty-Seven gentle, sloping steps bring you to Veranda Beach House.
Nestled to the hillside and facing the Caribbean Sea,
You will be lulled by the sounds of the sea in a private, lush garden.
Veranda Beach House sits on a secluded cove.
Aptly-named for its 48 by 12 foot seaside veranda, it has covered verandas on three sides
and a covered breezeway in the back accessible directly from each bedroom,
where you’ll find a solar heated shower and covered clothesline.

Just steps away down a private path is Tom’s Bay, a calm cove with excellent snorkeling.

Fully equipped kitchen. House is fully furnished.
The house is fully screened, with ceiling fans throughout.  The cleverly-designed cupola, soaring ceiling and open floor plan cool the house naturally.  Look out at the sea through the doors that open from the great room onto the veranda, or relax in a hammock under roof or on the patio in the garden as you sip a rum punch and watch the iguanas and birds.  Furniture and lamps are designed and hand-crafted by the owner, a professional woodworker, from local hardwoods.  The walls abound with local artwork.

When you arrive Grenada, your prepaid tickets to Carriacou will be waiting for you at the ticket counter. You'll be met at Carriacou Airport and taken to the local Police station where your own local driver's license and about US$15 will get you a local Carriacou driver's license. You and your family will run thru the local supermarket to load-up on what's available and essential. You will get a rental vehicle with your new local driving license. Then you, your vehicle and the transport carrying the family and food/drink will wind your way from Hillsborough, Carriacou's Main Town, and to the Veranda Beach House. All the stuff from the vehicles will be transferred and your maid will get you settled-in. Your maid comes daily and washes-up any dishes in the kitchen, tidies-up the bedrooms, makes the beds, and does the bathrooms. After a nice sweep, she'll ask if you have anything special and then she'll go home.
You and she will work-out the specific arrival/departure time to suit you all.

Well, this will get you started.
We have been doing this here in The Grenadines
- on Mustique, on Bequia, on Canouan, on Mayreau, on Palm Island, on Petit St. Vincent, on Union Island,
and here on Carriacou since 1996.
You are in good hands from here to the time of your Escape from your life
to spend a little time here enjoying ours.
With all this said... thanks for your patience in giving it all a good read,
I look forward now to our next e-conversation.
Warm breeeeeezes........

Some comments guests have written in our guestbook:

Ah, the veranda.  What a perfect name for this place . . .The walk down to the water makes the Caribbean so accessible it’s like a giant swimming pool. . . When you walk down the path to enter the house past bougainvilleas in purple and fuchsia and other flowers in coral and peach and see the hammock swinging at the corner of the veranda you have to punch yourself to learn that it’s all real; what you’re seeing is so beautiful.

Carriacou and the Veranda are heaven on earth!

Our whole family had a splendid stay.
The “babies” 8 mo., 2 ½, 3 ½ loved the close and accessible beach, as did our snorkeling grandma.

What a truly magnificent place you have.  We lived our life, day and night, on the veranda.  Breathtaking views of sunsets.

The magnificence of the colorful water, the beauty of the tropical gardens, the comfort and architectural elegance of the accommodations and the incredible combination of modernity and simplicity makes [Veranda] a perfect escape from reality.

The house rests so naturally on the edge of the sea, nestled in palms and bougainvilleas.  The gracious and ample veranda called us out continuously to the color of the sea by day and the glory of the stars at night.  Our natural entertainment included an iguana munching on papaya leaves!  The house is airy with high ceilings and handsome wood trim.  Everything we needed was at hand.  The design of the house is in complete harmony with the setting.  Best of all is the luxury of being so close to such an idyllic bay.   If Gauguin had landed here first, he would have skipped Tahiti!

Our stay at the Veranda was perfect.  This is the ideal place for relaxing!

This is our third trip to the Veranda and it gets more and more charming with each visit!  The Veranda, once again, met our every need.  How can you improve on perfection?  I took my final snorkel down at the beach – came across a Southern ray that was 7-8 feet from nose to tail.  Then, a second smaller one a few moments later.  The perfect ending to a perfect vacation!

We came a long way for our first time in the Caribbean and did not regret any second!  The Veranda is one of the most comfortable and peaceful locations we have ever been to, with hardly anything to improve and cinematic sunsets every evening.  Just the perfect choice!  So please take care of the hammock . . .We are absolutely certain to return to it again!

It hardly seems possible that a place can be so intoxicating – every sense is soothed, caressed and lulled into the island rhythm.  The gardens are beautiful and the gardener was very patient with my many questions.
But our most memorable moments (of many!) were:
    sunsets on the veranda
    snoozing on the veranda
candlelight on the veranda - - you get the picture!

We loved our too-short week at the Veranda and on Carriacou.
The house was great – wonderful location, design and décor, it was hard to leave each day.

We are with my grandparents who have been here [at Veranda] 4 times!  I love it here.
When I came here before, I was 7 years old, I liked it.  Now it’s even better.  (guest, age 11)

We especially loved the Veranda.  The house with outdoor shower, walkways around, well-equipped kitchen, access to beach and gorgeous views  were wonderful.  I loved watching the pelicans, birds in the garden, listening to the ocean, seeing the Southern Cross, watching the fireflies at night . . .But more than anything we loved sitting on the veranda.  We call it “porch sitting” and it was perfect for us.  I’ve been to 23 or 25 islands in the Caribbean and in a few short days this has become my favorite.

We loved every minute of our stay at the Veranda – it is such a magical place.

We’ve loved our stay in this beautiful house in this great spot.  We appreciate the handsome design and decoration.

This is our 4th and longest stay at the Veranda and the longer you stay, the better it gets!  During our first 10 days we went from bed to the porch to the beach . .reverse and repeat.  Aside from grocery shopping, we never left.

Carriacou couldn’t be less like NYC and each day we become more deeply relaxed.  On my way into the house from the chaise – for something or other – I found myself in the hammock instead, mission forgotten.  Restaurant dinners have turned in to dinners on the Veranda and our world becomes slower and slower.  Heaven!

This has been the most wonderful time.  The Veranda was so hypnotic we never made it to other Carriacou sites.

We’re sad to be leaving what already has begun to feel like a home after just a week.
We love the design of the house and will especially miss the view from the veranda and snorkeling on the beach.

We enjoyed spending part of our honeymoon at the Veranda.
We could not have asked for a more romantic setting.
We are off to Grenada for the rest of our honeymoon, but now are thinking maybe
we should have spent the whole time at the Veranda.

What we enjoyed here:
Breakfast on the Veranda
Lunch on the Veranda
Snacks on the Veranda
Dinner on the Veranda
Moonlight on the Veranda
Sunsets on the Veranda
In other words, we thoroughly enjoyed the VERANDA

What a wonderful house!
The Veranda is really the perfect place to read books and stare at the water and truly unwind.
Next time we will try to plan for 2 weeks!

The lovely Veranda – the swimming was marvelous, always the right temperature, like our own personal spa, the sun a bit hot at “high noon,” but that’s what the veranda is for.  Sleeping in the hammock, often with beer in hand.  The snorkeling was great, quite nice just off the shore here.

Such a beautiful, peaceful location, surrounded by tropical plants and wildlife.  We especially liked the iguana.  The views are fantastic.  We have found the Veranda a very relaxing place to stay.

The Veranda and her garden sit here as comfortably as if part of Nature’s plan for this delightful cove.
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to indulge in the beauty and serenity.

Thank you for sharing your home.  It was heaven to have all the screening after we had been “eaten up” by the mozzies at [another house].  We were intrigued by all the beautiful birds and especially the pelicans.
You have a beautiful garden and fantastic views.

A visit to Carriacou is a trip back in time to the Caribbean of 50 years ago --
to what many of the islands looked like before tourists arrived in droves.
This is the Caribbean the likes of which we now see only in classic, old, black-and-white movies
starring Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorrie and an always-sweating Sidney Greenstreet.
Carriacou, just 16 miles north of Grenada, should be at the top of your list
if you are looking for a completely laid-back vacation.
Pronounced Kair-ee-uh-koo, it is the largest of the chain
of some 100 small islands and cays known as the Grenadines.

I have lived here for the past 17+ years and if you're looking for a tiny island surrounded by wide, white sand beaches with clear, clean and warm water seas filled with fish and healthy coral, then you have come to the right place.  We have diving. We have hiking and nature trails.  Most people either walk or take island buses or ride bicycles. Hours will pass and you'll not see a transport and lastly, when we see three tourists standing on a corner we consider that a tourist invasion. We have no high-rise hotels. I think our largest is 18-rooms - most are 3-4 rooms.  We have no casinos.  We have no movie theatres.

Diving in Carriacou is some of the best in the entire Caribbean. It's perfect for the novice and a challenge for the expert.  The waters surrounding Carriacou offer fun and excitement for all divers and all skill levels.  As Carriacou is charminly off the beaten path, the reefs and coral walls remain unspoiled by the maddening crowd.  Our dive sites are easily accessible by taking a brief ride on our dive boats.  Our dive sites are 60/70 feet deep - only one site is about 90 feet and the visability varies from 30 feet to 100 feet.  Diving is comparable to the better known dive sites in the Caribbean with the reefs considerably more in tact and we have a large variety of fish.  Your diving in Carriacou is easy, except where occasional strong currents are experienced, for example around Sister Rocks.
