Hurricane Ivan Up-Date
CLICK HERE for latest Huricane Ivan up-dates by auto-responder robot
(Carriacou, 13 October, 2004) Life has retuned to normal here on the tiny island of Carriacou
and in The Grenadine Islands of Carriacou, Petite Martinique, Petit St. Vincent, Palm Island,
Union Island, Mayreau Island and The Tobago Cays, Canouan Island, Mustique and Bequia.
No loss of life; no major injuries.
The Carriacou Internet Cafe went back on-line
two days after the Hurricane.
Had 252 incoming messages.
I have now responded so please contact me again, if you're still awaiting a reply.
Carriacou and The Grenadines were VERY LUCKY.
It's those poor souls on Grenada that now need our prayers and support.
Warm breeeeeeezes.......

Happy New Year 2005!
This is webmasterJOHN, back behind the computer
from the sleepy little island of Carriacou.
MY New Year's Resolution was.....
 1) to start writing to this diary again on a regular basis.
2) I also made a Resolution to start back with my daily swims.
Yesterday, I took the plung so today, here's goes with the 2005 Up-Dates.
I hope you enjoy them.......

5 January 2005 - Wednesday
High Temperature 86ºF - Low Temperature 74ºF
Another rainy day.

Seems like this weather is going to continue. It got "down" to about 74°F last night and I had to get under a blanket at bedtime.
Funny, normally most people don't see 74°F as a High temperature and here we are on Carriacou
complaining how cool that temperature is.
Weather here really is a blessing.
Back in the 1970s, I had some surgery done on my hands and feet.
The surgery was successful but my doctors warned me that when I got as old as I find myself right now,
"I'd be crippled-up with arthritus."
Well, here I am as old as they said, and until now.......
not a trace of the old arthritus.
Seems like life here at the end of a road that only a donkey would travel,
has additional benefits over the sun and sand and palm trees.
Warm breeeeeezes.......

4 January 2005 - Tuesday
High Temperature 86ºF - Low Temperature 86ºF
A rainy day.

A weather pattern is crossing Carriacou today. Looks like rain all day.
Not much fun for the visitors from the S/V Mandalay that has come for a visit

2 January 2005 - Sunday
High Temperature 95º+F - Low Temperature 86ºF
Simply BEAUTIFUL weather. Excellent swim conditions.

Already had "the swim"
my hour of daily physical therapy really,
and the conditions were just
P E R F E C T
..... as usual.......
Our fabulous Tradewind Breeeeezes....... our NATUAL air conditioning
so it feels just the perfect temperature as I type this into the computer.

The swim takes about an hour and 1,000 strokes
and gives me time to unwind and relax from the hustle and bustle life
here on an isolated island with about 5,000 locals.

The exercise does the old body good.
And after all, there's not much else to do here
~ except swim. ~
After the swim lately I've been looking for sea shells - with mask+snorkel  -
and today I noticed a colorful shell on the bottom
so I picked it up and noticed
that it was really two shells that were stuck somehow together and when I pried it open

OUT JUMPED a tiny creature and
I knew at once that it was a baby octopus
and it squirted a tiny baby octopus cloud as it hurried
down to the sandy bottom and
immediatley out from view - burried itself under the soft sand.
I remember now a few weeks ago - perhaps a month ago -
on the chain that anchors a buoy that I use as a turn
for my daily swim,
I noticed perhaps 100 tiny creatures
holding themselves in a tight ball around the anchor chain
and hiding in a bit of seeweed/grass that was growing on the chain.
I couldn't then figure-out what they were but now I know.

These tiny creatures were
Baby Octopus
right here in Hillsborough
Carriacou's Main Town
just down from the Main Jetty
just off the wide, white sandy beach
