27-28 February 1999 - Weekend
High Temperature 88ºF- Low Temperature 75ºF
Simply gorgeous with blue skies and a few puffy white clouds. Brief, scattered rain showers at night. Nice wind.

Welcome to Kayak Konexion... Hello everyone,

This is truly long overdue, but my schedule hardly allows me the time
required to take care of my duties as list owner. I wish to express my
appreciation to all those who joined this list. I am quite pleased that
nearly everyone invited responded positively.

For quite a while, I had something of this nature in mind. A list of this
kind achieves at least one thing: it keeps those of us with Carriacou
connections, and interests of some kind, connected, inspite of where we
might be. Although there are other forums, such as the ones at
Grenadines.net and Grentel's Talkshop, I think this mailing list would be
unique for at least two reasons.

First, unlike the other discussion forums, a person needs not remember to
visit the site to be a part of discussions, or to keep abreast with the
happenings at home. Posted messages go directly to the mail box of every
subscriber. Secondly, since this is OUR thing, we have more control over
what happens here. It is my wish that we keep it as clean as possible, and
avoid the aggressive, character-attacking arguments that are very present
in the main Talkshop forum. Instead, let us seek to challenge ourselves to
stay focused on the development as we move towards the millenium, and to
be of as positive and progressive a mind as we can ever imagine. Let our
finest Kayak qualities shine through here.

I am the kinda person who is never without a dream of some kind for our
islands. This forum, I think, would be a good place for us to throw ideas
on the table, and exchange opinions. So far, 20 persons are here
connected, and I wish that as we get started, those of us who have other
Kayak contacts with email possibilities, we suggest to them that they join
our mailing list.
Remember, if you'd like to post original messages, the
email address to use is: ccouconnexion@listbot.com.

I expect, also, that our two home-based contacts would serve to keep us in
direct contact with Carriacou; I wish also that they may be able to keep
us informed, as far as the current needs of the island are.

Since the formulation of this list, I have been prompting my Toronto-based
comrade to start the ball rolling, knowing, especially, how much he's into
lively discussions. However, it is Hugh, my young compatriot here at
MidWestern State, who I must congratulate for taking the initiative of
posting the first message. Hope we all follow his lead.

It was my hope that this list would be so structured that by replying to
posted messages, we would be perpetuating general discussion, and not send
private messages. This, however, isn't so, and it was one of the things I
wished to have resolved before continuing. I even considered switching to
another provider of a service of this kind. However, I hardly think that
we should wait any longer. In the meantime, however, we may attemt to have
our responses sent to all subscribers by using the "reply all/reply to
all" buttons, and not just the "reply" one.

I look forward, now, to maximum use of the Kayak Konexion mailing list.
Let us all stay connected, because, as we already know, "is caca-barwee
for caca-barwee." Let's stay focused on progress in Carriacou and Petit
Martinique, that is, without completely losing sight of our traditions and
values.

I look forward to your postings,

Davon Baker

If any readers are from Carriacou, please contact Davon and get subscribed to his List. Let's all help him out in bringing together the many Carriacouans who are scattered throughout the world. Good job, Devon!

20-21 February 1999 - Weekend
High Temperature 87ºF- Low Temperature 75ºF
Simply gorgeous... sunny with blue skies and a few puffy white clouds. Nice wind.
Last weekend started Carriacou's 1999 Carnival and until it's conclusion at 12:00 Midnight Tuesday there was music and dancing in the streets and the cold beers were flowing. So this weekend, I just kicked-back and relaxed. I guess it's a sign that you're getting older when a few days (and nights) of drinking and dancing 'till dawn make a whole weekend of watching TV seem like the thing to do. Ah.... another day in paradise.

19 February 1999 - Thursday
High Temperature 87ºF- Low Temperature 75ºF
A simply gorgeous day... sunny with blue skies and a few puffy white clouds. Nice wind.

Cable and Wireless Grenada Limited, our Grenadine Island telephone company and Internet ISP, has a website summarizing the 1999 Grenada National ElectionsDon't miss the new Grenadines.net Chat Room. I will try to sign-on daily around 5pm East Coast USA Time. Would love to hear any comments or suggestions and as always I will be just full of advice and information! Had a VERY busy day and it included folks from Norway, Montana, San Francisco, Mayreau, the Captain (John) of the S/V Yankee Clipper and his Mate Ricardo and Daddy Starboy Taxi, and Shaun from Hillsborough's Port of Call Bar, Pastor Mendes, Troy from The Twilight Bar & Restaurant on Tyrrel Bay, -D-Column-King Godwin Roberts, Mary Lou, Taxi Driver Norbert Allert, and a few others that I'll remember tommorow. Yeah, I know.... there's nothing to do on Carriacou and you come here to kick-back and relax. BUT!, let me assure you that the folks living here on Carriacou are hard at work every day to keep things running smoothly during your visit. Be sure to tell the folks here, in your Guesthouse, at the beach bar, at the diveshop and restaurant, that you found them on the Net! and let's keep the momentum Grenadines.net is building going. Words of encouragement really help!

Jean-Michel & Elisabeth from S/Y Kyrimba surfed the world wide web and handled their e-mail. They depart today for Curaçao and Panama and hope to return to The Grenadines for a few years following their visit to to Vanuatu, the San Blas, the Marquesas islands, Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji. 6-7 February 1999 - Weekend
High Temperature 85ºF- Low Temperature 75ºF
A simply gorgeous day with sunny clear blue skies, not even a cloud. Nice wind.
Now this has been perfect weather!
And the few brief, scattered rain showers over the past few days has brought out the contrast between blue skies and lush, green tops of coconut palms and other vegetation. Nine years here and still it never ceases to amaze me how beautiful this little isle of Carriacou is. It's Sunday morning as I write this entry. From the window I saw another lone vehicle driving North up Main Street, Hillsborough. Except for the fact that Main Street is ONE WAY the other way, this event would be decidedly un-eventful. Please remember, into town up Back Street and out of town toward the Airport down Main Street. Otherwise, you are liable to hit a chicken crossing the road forgetting to look both ways before crossing.

5 February 1999 - Friday
High Temperature 85ºF- Low Temperature 75ºF
A simply gorgeous day with sunny, blue skies, a few, white puffy clouds. High seas and strong winds.
I had a meeting in the office with several homeowners from next door Palm Island. Rumors have it that a Barbados Hotel Company purchased the Island from the Caldwell Family and the rumor mill grinds on with the Island being closed from 1APR99 (for about six months) for up-grades, repairs, and additions. It's a good thing that the owners have listed their villas and apartments on our Grenadines.net Palm Island Homepage.  During the period the Island "Resort Facilities" are closed to the public, a few lucky families, groups, friends and lovers can now have the island to themselves.
We have availabilities at Villa Rondelei from 6 March thru 8 November 1999
We have availabilities at The Tradewinds from 21 March thru 15 December 1999.
We have availabilities at Villa Wildflower from 15 March thru 10 February and again from 10 April 1999 thru 15 January 2000.
