Mitchell Prime Minister Grenada, Carriacou & Petite Martinique Grenadines.net is your first resource for planning your trip, and the final word on what all the islands have to offer. After all - our name says it all - we are not some faraway travel agent - we are the owners and manager of the tourism businesses. This is our home. You cannot get more up-to-date information anywhere else! Deal direct and save! If you have a particular Grenadine island in mind, know the name of a special hotel or other place to stay or just have an idea of the type of getaway you'd like, you've come to the right place. The Grenadine Islands have long been in the business of making yachties' dreams come true and now these pieces of paradise are accessible to those without benefit of their own personal yacht. If you're planning a trip, your first job --choosing an island -- is perhaps the hardest of all. The islands of The Grenadines offer more than just sand, sea and palm trees... as if that isn't enough. Each island, each destination has its own distinctive personality, culture and characteristics. No matter what level of activity -- or inactivity-- you're after, it's here waiting for you. And...Where Will You Stay? The Grenadines have a choice of accommodations suited for every budget and taste from quaint inns and guesthouses to luxury resorts and private villas. Families with kids are not just tolerated here they are indeed welcome and safe and sure to have a wonderful time playing along side our own children. Seeking silence? Search out a tiny, remote outpost where quiet is always on the menu. Eco-resorts are popping up throughout The Grenadines and you'll find camping/backpackers on Carriacou. Need nightlife? Head for a big-time on Bequia where the party lights are always on. And...What Will You DO During Your Stay? The Grenadines offer miles and miles of sandy beaches to stroll, explore, or exercise. Go hiking and get acquainted with the islands; get to know the people; stop and have a chat; charter a sailboat; go fishing; snorkel off the beach; ride a bicycle; look for fossils; paint the architecture; have a picnic; ride a speedboat; go to an island party; enjoy the local cooking; read a 1,000 books, or write one; swing in a hammock; paint a picture; ...do it all or do nothing, you decide. And... When Is The Best Time To Travel? Our Weather Is Year-Round Beautiful. Typically, mid-December through mid-April is considered our "High Season" in The Grenadines. The weather is at its best, 75°F (at night) /23.89°C - 85°F /29.44°C (during day) with little chance for rain, which means that prices go up; popular hotels book up solid. In order to avoid disappointment, get your airline reservations settled first and then make your reservations and place down your deposits to hold them well in advance of your expected arrival date. Give serious consideration to private travel insurance as most Grenadine tourism service providers have no return of deposit policy because of missed international travel connections. Conversely, mid-April to mid-December are quieter times to travel. Weather reflects that of the High Season with the exception that cooling, refreshing, and brief showers might occur during the day or night and the island vegetation will be on display. Let's stop calling it "The Rainy Season" and running our sun-bathing friends elsewhere. Here in The Grenadines, it's year-round between 75-85°F- 23.89-29.44°C with water temperatures about 5°F below air temps. "Dry Season"and "Green Season"That's better. Hurricanes, too, are a fact of life in the Caribbean and are most prevalent June through November. Remember, though, from end to end the Caribbean Region is huge, and a storm in one area doesn't necessarily mean a canceled trip for you to The Grenadines. We are located at the southern edge of the so-called "Hurricane Belt" and most likely to remain outside of any danger zone. If a storm comes through the week before your planned trip, don't succumb to media hype -- the world isn't ending -- look at the island forecast here on Grenadines.net first! Welcome...to our little island network™ Visit us often... to keep abreast of the daily up-dates to our electronic travel destination magazine about Carriacou, Petite Martinique, Palm, Union, Mayreau and the Tobago Cays, Canouan, Mustique & Bequia The Spanish sailors who first sighted the Grenadines in the late 15th century called them "Los Pajaros" - The Birds, because from the horizon they looked like tiny birds in flight. The less fanciful pirates, who in the 16th and 17th centuries hid their ships from enemies in the sheltered bays of these islands, called them The Grenadines The English adopted the name when they invaded and took control during the reign of Charles I. Geophysically, the Grenadines resulted from a volcanic eruption of Grenada. The largest of The Grenadines, Carriacou, and nearby Petite Martinique are today politically a part of Grenada. The northern Islands, however, are today politically a part of St. Vincent and The Grenadines. This chain of Islands was inhabited by the Arawaks, and later by the Caribs whose simple tools can still be found along with an occasional burial site that gets opened after a 1,000 year sleep as new guesthouses disturb their rest. The original West Indians were ousted by European planters in the 1740's who found they could grow sugar here in abundance. The West Indies became economically significant because Europe's only sources of sugar at that time were limited quantities from the Canaries and Cyprus. Today, The Grenadines... remain a cure for our tourist's sweet tooth; but, not because of our sugar. Come Visit us! You'll see what I mean. I hope you enjoy the website.
