The Caldwell's story of sailing the Caribbean, leasing Prune Island for 198 years from St. Vincent and years of back-breaking work is part of the charm of this casual, fun loving resort. The renovations that started in 1999 by Rob Barrett and his experienced team build upon that charm. The Caldwell's lifetime dream was built on 135 acres of hills, a lake often filled with mosquitos, and white sandy coves rimmed with the clear turquoise Caribbean Sea and healthy and brimming with life coral reefs. Before his death in 1998, John planted thousands of coconut palms on Palm Island and neighboring islands up and down the Caribbean over his last 25 years. Today, I know that he'd be pleased to see a bird sanctuary and salt water, fish filled lagoon meandering aimlessly where "the lake" once stood. Today, landscaping, walkways and accent lighting have been added drawing you to it for casual strolls, hand-in-hand.
Trails meander through the palm groves. The restaurant/bar is also located right on the beach a few steps from each cottage. Meals are casual, delicious, and a great opportunity to sample West Indian cuisine. Fresh fish and lobster is a specialty along with international favorites. Every afternoon at 4 PM, tea is served on your patio or at the gazebo. A weekly BBQ, a local steel band, and a night out on Union Island will provide evening entertainment.
Water sports are king on Palm Island. Sailing charters, day-sails, picnics, and jaunts to neighboring islands are easy to arrange with the resort staff. If all this activity is too much, just relax in a palm-shaded hammock and savor the peace and tranquility. You can be busy every minute or do nothing at all.

Palm Island caters to those who like barefoot informality, friendly folks, warm sun and clear waters. A boutique, tennis court, and game room with television and Ping-Pong are just down the beach. Highway 90 was John's walking, jogging, fitness trail around the island. He gave weekly fitness and water exercise classes to help keep guests in good shape as his trim 80+ years attested. HAVE A LOOK AT HIGHWAY 90. Dress code is as follows:
In the restaurants, shoes are worn and bathing suits are covered. After 6:30 p.m., men wear shirts with collars and short or long sleeves (no T-shirts or tank tops), slacks or tailored Bermuda-length shorts; women wear dresses, skirts, slacks, culottes or tailored Bermuda-length shorts (no "short shorts" or cut-offs). No jeans for men or women in the evening.Getting to Palm Island is half the fun. The roller-coaster nose-dive down onto Union Island's airstrip is a great thrill. One of the staff will pick you up at the airport for the 1-mile boat ride over to the island. Visiting sailors stop at Palm Island to join in a festive meal, log some land time, and just hang out. Sailing the Grenadines is how most visitors find Palm Island.
